Our listing In "The Purple Book"
Have you heard of a book publish annually as a resource guide for Online Shopping and Search, called The Purple Book we came across this wonderful guide because the author of the book, Hillary Mendelsohn, called us up out of the blue (last year 2003) and notified us that we would be listed in her book called "The Purple Book" for the year 2004 - Sure we were excited, we couldn't wait to get a copy ourselves, and so we did! This amazing book is at least 2" thick! Its great, its has so many categories and listings of everything you can think of.
Read what they have to say about her book at www.Amazon.com - I would post the link, but you know those dynamic pages, the links are waay long. Go to www.Amazon.com - do a search for the "The Purple Book" and you'll find it.
But here is a short copy from www.Amazon.com (hope they don't get mad)
Editorial Reviews From Publishers Weekly:
Think of it as a Google for shoppers. Marketing consultant Mendelsohn and her colleagues have poured over tens of thousands of e-commerce Web sites and come up with a whopper of a directory listing their favorites, which they arrived at by using such criteria as how easy a site is to use, how good its selection is and how long it takes to download the site. The book divides the offerings into 19 categories, including pets, gadgets, maternity, entertainment and travel. Each entry lists the site's URL, a review and information regarding shipping costs, the availability of gift certificates and other particulars. The reviews are not all positive-e.g., Beauty.com's site is "confusing," and VillasOfTheWorld.com uselessly divides accommodations as either "First Class," "Deluxe" or "Luxurious"-which helps give the author and her team credibility. The sleekly designed book brims with helpful cross-references and hints for getting the most out of an online shopping experience.Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information, Inc. About the Author
Frustrated by the seemingly random results generated by most Internet search engines, Hillary Mendelsohn decided to create a comprehensive resource to help online shoppers like herself, drawing on her experience as a busy professional and equally busy wife and parent. With an education in literature and the law, Mendelsohn began her career in the entertainment industry, co-founding a management and production company before helping to spin off toys, apparel and other products from entertainment properties such as Terminator 2, Mortal Kombat and Baywatch at The Licensing Group in Los Angeles.
A year later she launched her own consulting firm, Poetic Licensing, which has since brought its marketing expertise to such clients as Warner Bros., Franchise Pictures, Sega, Imax, and the Vatican. Several years ago, Mendelsohn's first, late-night attempt at online shopping led her to a revelation — and a new venture. Having typed a "very specific" query into a search engine and received no less than 367 matches, she found that only seven had any relevance. With no available resource guide on the market, she began to create online shopping lists for herself. They proved popular among her friends. So popular, in fact, that Mendelsohn spent three years compiling the ultimate resource: thepurplebook.
ps: We're once again listed in her 2005 Edition: The Definitive Guide to Exceptional Online Shopping
I haven't had a chance to purchase a copy yet (at www.Amazon.com) But I had emailed the author late September 2004 inquiring when her 2005 edition would be coming out (& if we're listed) and she said:
"Yes! You are not only in the 2005 edition, but your site received a STAR for extra recognition. The book will be available nationwide tomorrow." Congratulations. Hillary Mendelsohn .
aaah Sweet!
pps: Check out her book and the author didn't and haven't at any time ask us to write about her... we're just thrilled to be listed... ya !
